The new regulation, which is the first in the nation, takes direct aim at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. In 2009, the Hyatt along with two other local Hyatt properties laid off 98 housekeepers causing Cambridge elected officials and unions to cry foul since the housekeepers trained their replacements. David was asked whether the ordinance could withstand a legal challenge and noted that when companies contract out workers, they are not absolved of responsibility. "This regulation could definitely be challenged from a number of fronts," he said.
